I remember my first internship like it was yesterday. I was fresh out of college, at my dream fashion magazine, living in the “big city” for the first time, like I was Jane Sloan in The Bold Type. I worked my ass off for four months—said “yes” to everything, tried to be as helpful as humanly possible—and when I finally asked if there was a full-time spot for me… the answer was “no.”

Which is exactly why I love today’s reader question (how to turn an internship into a full-time job), because I wish I had this advice from recruiter Christie Lohr back then.

And the more that I think about it, that “no” (as gutting as it was to hear in the moment) was the universe giving me a gentle nudge toward the career I actually wanted: writing this very newsletter for you today. 💗
