Lara here, Girlboss’ contributing writer! 👋

ICYMI, March is National Reading Month 📚, and if that news filled you with dread because you’re way behind on your reading goals, we gotchu! 🫂 We chatted with #BookTok creator Morgann Book to get her very best advice on how to fall in love with reading again, and spoiler alert: she recommends a little something spicy. 🌶️

Other stuff the Girlboss team is yapping about on Slack:

💼 Job of the day: Cool-girl eyewear brand KREWE is hiring a Graphic Designer to design their marketing, campaign, and retail assets, and the work perks are pretty impressive (like a quarterly cultural spend!).

🙄 No, AI can't estimate a woman's “body count,” but that's not really the point.

Just You, the Water, and a Really Good Swimsuit

Wearing a bathing suit shouldn’t come with a mental checklist. And yet… it usually does. Is it staying in place? Do I need to adjust this? Can I actually swim in it? Suddenly, you’re thinking about everything except enjoying yourself. 🙃

Not this summer, friends! Carve Designs was founded by two surf-loving women who couldn't find swimwear that actually fit their active lifestyles or their bodies. So, they made it themselves. 💅 Enter the Lux Compression Collection—buttery-soft, ultra-supportive, and smoothing in all the right places.

Here’s what we’re eyeing:

From playing mermaids to lounging, the beach to the bar, cannonballs to cocktail hour, there’s a swimsuit for every body. 👙

How to Get Out of Your Reading Slump, Stat! 📚

ICYMI, bookworms are the new it-girls, 🐛 and #BookTok influencer Morgann Book is proof. She’s become one of the most trusted voices in the online reading community (just ask her 2.6 million followers 😉), so naturally, we had to get her tips for how we can all be bookworms too.

📖 What's your best advice for women who want to read more?

“Read more fiction novels! I think people feel a pull towards self-help and non-fiction books because they think they’ll change their lives—which they can, but fiction can too! The anxiety representation in Yours Truly by Abby Jimenez had a bigger impact on me than any self-help book I’ve ever read. The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce also had a huge impact on me as an eldest daughter. Having multiple books on the go to suit your mood is helpful, too. I’ve always got a roster going on my Kobo eReader, so it makes jumping into a good story so simple. Also, don’t be afraid to DNF (did not finish) a book if you’re not vibing with it; books are subjective!”

🤔 How do you get out of a reading slump?

“Either grab a quick thriller or a spicy romance novel. If you’re in the middle of a book and feel like you’re entering a slump, the best thing you can do is ditch the book or come back to it later. Reading a short (less than 300 pages) thriller or romance is the easiest way to kickstart your brain into reading again.”

🔎 What are your favorite ways to discover new books?

“As a #BookTok content creator, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t use the platform to find new reads. There are a few creators who I live and breathe by, so I tend to read anything they recommend. @edensarchives and @bradylockerby are two of my favorites on TikTok. I also like to use Rakuten Kobo’s recommendations based on what I’ve already read. Once I finish a book on my eReader, they create a list of similar reads, which makes it easy when I’m looking for a similar vibe!”

😱 What upcoming book releases are you most excited about?

“A lot! Our Perfect Storm is Carley Fortune’s next release, and I am counting down the days until May 5th. I already have it pre-ordered! I absolutely love her writing style and the Canadian setting of all her books. The Someday Garden by Ashley Poston is another one of my anticipated releases. She writes the most beautiful magical realism stories. Lastly, Riley Sager has quickly become an auto-buy thriller author for me! His next release, The Unknown, will be released on August 8th.”
