Kat Stickler is an entrepreneur and content creator with more than 15 million followers across TikTok and Instagram. She's known for candid storytelling and comedy, and she's a Founding Partner of Snackish, a better-for-you chip brand. She has been featured by TODAY, E! News, BuzzFeed, and Us Weekly.

What matters most in your first job, according to Kat Stickler?

Stickler says curiosity matters most. In her view, the people who grow fastest aren't the smartest but the most curious: they ask questions, make mistakes quickly, and seek feedback instead of avoiding it. She says looking successful and pretending you have it all figured out doesn't matter.

What skill does Kat Stickler wish she'd built sooner?

Negotiation. Stickler says women are often praised for being accommodating before they're encouraged to be ambitious, and that self-advocacy isn't selfish, it's a skill. She says every time you negotiate your salary, title, boundaries, or time, you teach people how to value you.

What does Kat Stickler look for when hiring?

Work ethic. Stickler says she looks at how someone handles a problem, whether they're curious, and whether they see things through. She says she can teach almost any skill but can't teach someone to care, so she'd choose someone eager to learn.

What's the best and worst career advice Kat Stickler has received?

The best advice she's received is to be excellent but not hide your excellence, since opportunity often goes to people whose work is both exceptional and visible. The worst is to keep your head down and work hard. Stickler says to work hard, but also ask for the meeting, raise your hand, and negotiate, because silence isn't humility if it costs you opportunities.
