Talking Points
If You’re Too Busy
Last week, Team Girlboss aired out our dirty laundry 😜 a.k.a. we admitted all of our failed New Year’s resolutions. Oops! 🙊 Although we generally aim to be glass-half-full gals whenever we can, we also find that it’s a lot more inspiring to learn about someone’s failures (and how they overcame them) than their successes, which is why we think it’s so important to share them.
We asked you to weigh in with your own resolution wins and fails, and based on the responses, one thing is very clear: we’re all trying to be our very best selves, even when it’s hard! 💪 Let these resolution testimonies from the Girlboss community inspire you to crush your goals this year and beyond. 😘
Your Resolution Fails and Successes
💃 “I started on Duolingo in 2022 and in 2023 made it a resolution to do a lesson every day💃 “I started on Duolingo in 2022 and in 2023 made it a resolution to do a lesson every day. I did that in 2023 and 2024 and will do it again in 2025. In fact, I just hit a 900-day streak. I also made the resolution in 2024 to go to a dance fitness class at least two times a week and I loved it so much that I’m doing it again in 2025.”
💦 “I've struggled with the resolution to drink more water for years and my main solution: get a water bottle you love. Prioritize a sippy straw (it truly makes all the difference, IMO) and you don't need one of those crazy gigantic ones, just something that you can keep and carry with you. When it's beside me, I drink. When I don't know where my water bottle is? Uh oh.”
🇪🇸 “My resolution for a couple of years has been to learn Spanish. I took a couple of years in high school but wasn’t serious about learning. Now, I am married to a person whose language of their heart is Spanish, my in-laws prefer Spanish, and I grew up in and now live in a predominantly Spanish-speaking community. I have Duolingo downloaded, I have my spouse as a willing tutor, and lots of friends who can help—but I still haven’t done it.”
📵 “I wish I could spend an entire year off of social media and prioritize more social events that aren’t work-related, but every year I fail spectacularly.”
🥤 “For the last five years, I have tried to quit drinking soda and energy drinks because I don’t like the way it makes me feel, and have failed every time. :'( This year, however, I sat down and made a plan of how I was going to cut it out and alternatives to add to my life. Step 1) No soda in the house. Step 2) No dark syrup sodas when I'm out to eat. Step 3) Substitute with sparkling water, and by June 1st, no more soda.”

THE STUFF WE LOVE
Staff Picks
The Affordable Designer Button-Up“Uniqlo is my go-to for all basics (I’m literally wearing my trusty Uniqlo cardigan as I write this), so when I saw that they were collaborating with iconic British designer JW Anderson on a new collection, I simply had to get my hands on it. My favorite piece in the collection is this classic striped button-up. It has the perfect boxy fit that makes any outfit look so effortlessly chic, and the material feels luxe (especially for the price tag!). TBH, I might just need to buy it in every single color.” — Lara, contributor |
The Setting Spray That Stays on All Day“Remember this iconic tweet of a girl who got hit by a car but her makeup stayed intact? (She’s okay, btw!) It’s hard to forget, as it was a pretty wild pop culture moment and has shaped my relationship with this Urban Decay setting spray. While I hope no one experiences a similar situation, I do highly recommend this product for anyone who wants their makeup to stay on for a loooong time. My makeup has survived sad movie sessions, sweaty runs, and hot summer days, and I just love how reliable it is. What I’m trying to say is that I’m locked in for life—just like my makeup after I set it with this water and sweat-proof spray. 💁♀️” — Jennifer, contributor |
The Soothing Single“I first fell in love with Japanese Breakfast (a.k.a. Michelle Zauner) while reading her stunning memoir Crying in H-Mart, only to discover that not only was she a wildly insightful author, she’s also an insanely talented musician. I ended up going down a deep discography rabbit hole and listening to her album Jubilee on an endless loop (highly recommended), which is why it’s especially exciting that she just dropped a new single off of her forthcoming album For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women). I’m already in love with the single and counting down the days until the full album drops on March 21!” — Lara |
